This amazing space has provided a place of joy for our daughter. We have seen how your work has given her something to look forward to during the pandemic. She was excited everyday of Summer ‘Cool, which ignited a passion that continues to grow. Through After ‘Cool, we have watched her become a part of a community where she belongs and is accepted. She enjoys the adults, the activities and the other actors. We’ve heard thoughtful, mindful, and engaging conversations that have taught her and promoted creativity. We consider 24th STreet Theatre a blessing to our family.

What is Summer ‘Cool?

Summer ‘Cool ignites students' creative minds, helps them make human connections and imparts lifelong skills such as public speaking and critical thinking through the artforms of theatre and storytelling.

A two-weeklong afternoon arts education and enrichment program offered for local students grades 5-8, Summer ‘Cool is generously supported by foundations* to serve 20 students every school year at no cost to families (value is $1500 per student). Taught by highly experienced teaching artists, the curriculum is aligned with the California Content Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts to help students develop the arts education skills expected for each grade level, while having fun and making friends at the same time!

A Look Back at Summer ‘Cool 2023…

This year, Summer ‘Cool was entirely back in person—our students even enjoyed a field trip to the Natural History Museum. As always, our amazing teaching artists and talented college/high school teaching assistants put together a jam-packed session of writing, dancing, movement, photography, filmmaking and acting! You can also check out the work of past years (such as the music video below) which explore the theme of identity through dance and spoken word, starring the company of Summer 'Cool 2020.

Watch this music video made and performed by the Summer ‘Cool 2020 cohort!
